The higher resolution attainable at 7T shows great promise in improved clinical assessment of MSK imaging; however, importantly the safe and reliable imaging of metallic implants that are used in surgery needs to be addressed. The imaging of patients who have metallic implants that are secondary to the organ of interest being examined also can pose a risk and needs to be verified. The topics in this proposal cover specific absorption rate (SAR) modelling, heating simulations and experimental validation. This project verifies the safety and image quality of metallic implants at 7T using single and parallel transmit systems. This project is in collaboration with Prof Stuart Crozier (ITEE).
