International Day of Women and Girls in Science

International Day of Women and Girls in Science on 11 February promotes gender quality, access and the empowerment of women and girls in science, technology, engineering and mathematics education, training and research activities. 

Established by the United Nations General Assembly, the International Day of Women and Girls in Science recognises the critical role women and girls play in science and technology communities.

The 2021 theme: 'Women Scientists at the forefront of the fight against COVID-19' recognises the importance of women in research.

We are proud to celebrate our women scientists, researchers and leaders in science and are excited for our next Women in Imaging (WII) event on 10 March 2021. Celebrating International Women's Day (IWD), Women in Imaging 2021 - 'Women Leading #ChooseToChallenge' will hear the journeys of special guest speakers across STEM leadership and include networking over canapés and drinks.

The event will hear talks from female leaders: Vanessa Barclay, Director of Operations, Metro North Medical Imaging, Metro North Hospital and Health ServiceDr Sue Keay, Chief Executive Officer, Queensland AI Hub and Professor Linda Richards, Professor of Neuroscience at the Queensland Brain Institute, The University of Queensland, Edison Professor of Neurobiology, Head of the Department of Neuroscience and Director, McDonnell Center for Cellular and Molecular Neurobiology, Washington University School of Medicine, St Louis, USA.
